Does the CIA know about the end of the world, and, in turn, are they aware of a secret history that some people suggest has seen the near collapse of human civilization many thousands of years before the first officially recognized signs of civilization? Or are such claims twisted versions of murky situations from both the intelligence world and that of pre-history? The fact is, compelling arguments about such scenarios can be made either way, and the CIA’s alleged suppression of a book released in the mid-1960s has fascinated many researchers for decades.
As we will explore, these claims themselves are a mixture of half-truths, fabrication, and misinterpretation. That doesn’t, however, mean that there aren’t partial truths to be found in these fascinating and enthralling claims. After all, the best place to hide such facts would be in between or among outlandish lies. Could this be the case here?
Whatever the truth might be, the following should give us all plenty to contemplate, both about the past and the future.

History Ready To Repeat?
A great starting point is the 1966 book The Adam and Eve Story – The Story of Cataclysms by Dr. Chauncey Powers Thomas. In this book, Thomas not only examines past cataclysmic events but also provides an in-depth depiction of what such an event might look like in the modern world. He describes a world plunged into chaos, experiencing massive global disruptions marked by severe earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and drastic climate changes.
Thomas details the onset of this cataclysm beginning with a barely audible rumble, which quickly escalates into a deafening roar, signaling the start of an unprecedented earthquake. He describes mountains swaying like trees in the wind and the ground cracking open, revealing large fissures.
Further, he imagines the Pacific Ocean off the coast of California transforming into a two-mile-high wall of seawater, surging eastward across the United States. Similar floods would occur globally, with enormous deluges sweeping across continents, altering coastlines and submerging vast land areas. These floods are depicted as devastating, resulting in significant loss of life and the destruction of civilizations.
Unknown Ancient Civilizations Wiped Away?
Thomas also highlights the significant geophysical and climatic impacts of cataclysmic events. He explains how massive volcanic eruptions release vast amounts of ash and gases into the atmosphere, leading to global dimming and climate alterations. This results in sudden temperature changes, including extreme cooling or warming trends.
These cataclysms ultimately cause the collapse of existing civilizations, leading to a loss of knowledge, widespread destruction, and social upheaval. Thomas describes the emergence of new habitats and ecosystems as landscapes transform, effectively transporting survivors back to a Stone Age-like existence.
Moreover, Thomas suggests that this hypothetical cataclysm wouldn’t be the first. He posits that several advanced civilizations have been wiped out by past global events. In his book, Thomas hypothesizes that Earth has experienced several cataclysmic events caused by rapid pole shifts and crustal displacement.
He claims these events occur approximately every 6,000 years and have significantly influenced human history. Thomas proposes that ancient civilizations, such as Atlantis and Lemuria, were destroyed by these cataclysms, resulting in the loss of advanced knowledge and the rise of new civilizations.
A Drastic Change In A Matter Of Hours
Thomas argues that cataclysmic events stem from a buildup of pressure within the Earth’s core, leading to sudden pole shifts and widespread devastation. He claims these pole shifts occur not over weeks or days, but within a matter of hours.
According to his theory, the presence of animal carcasses in Antarctica with unchewed, well-preserved food in their mouths is due to a flash-freezing event. He suggests this happened when the continent rapidly moved from a location near the equator to its current polar position, instantly subjecting the animals to extreme cold and preserving them along with their food.
It should be noted that the idea of a mammoth being discovered in Antarctica is highly controversial. Many mainstream scientists argue that while preserved carcasses have been found in the Arctic, no such discoveries have been made in Antarctica. However, proponents of Thomas’s theory believe this information is being suppressed by authorities.
Regardless of the controversy, this assertion has persisted for decades and may be worth considering. Thomas also discusses the consequences of these cataclysms, such as massive floods, extreme weather patterns, and geological upheavals, which he believes have led to the extinction of numerous species and the collapse of advanced societies.
Separating Facts From Half Truths
At this point, it’s important to clarify that there is some confusion regarding whether the book in question was banned by the CIA. In 2013, a declassified document was released to the public following a Freedom of Information Act request. Among other things, this document included a copy of The Adam and Eve Story. The book itself has been available since its initial publication in 1966 and saw two subsequent editions in 1971 and 1993.
However, especially before the Internet era, the book was not always easy to find, partly due to difficulties in securing distribution. Thomas’s ideas were, and still are to some, considered pseudoscience, leading some companies to distance themselves from the book to protect their reputations. Nonetheless, as we will explore later, many ideas in the book have been shown to be more accurate than Thomas was credited for during his lifetime. Additionally, the book’s niche subject matter likely contributed to periods when it was out of print.
The inclusion of the book in a declassified document has never been fully explained. Given that Thomas worked on the McDonnell Douglas Project, which involved UFO research, it is plausible that the document was some form of background research on Thomas, with his book included as part of this intelligence. While this is a likely explanation, it is also possible that the interest was due to the subject matter of the book itself.
Similar Conclusions From Other Researchers
Whatever the truth, Thomas’s book and its suggestions make for fascinating, albeit grim, reading. As mentioned earlier, several of Thomas’s ideas were more accurate than initially believed. He was not alone in making such claims. In 1955, nearly a decade before Thomas, Charles Hapgood published Earth’s Shifting Crust, proposing that the Earth’s outer crust can undergo dramatic and rapid movements, causing the geographic poles to shift. Hapgood, like Thomas, suggested that continental drift evidenced the potential for these shifts.
According to Hapgood’s theories, the Earth’s crust is a dynamic layer that can move independently of the underlying mantle. He proposed that a sudden redistribution of the Earth’s mass could trigger a crustal displacement, resulting in a pole shift, where the geographic North and South Poles relocate to different positions on the Earth’s surface.
Hapgood argued that evidence of past pole shifts could be found in various geological phenomena, such as the alignment of ancient monuments, the presence of tropical fossils in polar regions, and large-scale displacements in the Earth’s crust. He believed these phenomena indicated significant movements of the Earth’s crust in the past.
While Hapgood revised his ideas over the years, many of his theories were partially proven true. For instance, we now know that continents drift apart and occasionally collide, forming new or combined landmasses, a process that has occurred for billions of years. The concept of continental drift has revolutionized our understanding of Earth’s geological history. Over millions of years, landmasses on our planet have undergone a series of movements and reconfigurations, leading to the formation and breakup of several supercontinents.
A World Very Much In Motion
Vaalbara, believed to have existed around 3 billion years ago, is considered the earliest proposed supercontinent, comprising present-day Africa, Australia, and parts of India and Antarctica. Following Vaalbara, Ur existed approximately 2.7 billion years ago, including much of today’s North America, Western Greenland, and portions of Africa and Europe.
Other supercontinents include Kenorland, Arctica, Atlantica, and Columbia, which existed over a billion years ago and comprised various combinations of the modern continents. Rodinia, dating back to around 1 billion years ago, was one of the most significant supercontinents in Earth’s history, consisting of most continental masses, including North America, South America, Africa, India, Australia, Antarctica, and parts of Europe and Asia.
In relatively more recent times, Pannotia existed around 600 million years ago, followed by Gondwana about 550 million years ago. Gondwana was one of the largest supercontinents, incorporating present-day South America, Africa, India, Australia, Antarctica, and parts of Arabia and Europe.
Lastly, Pangea, the most famous of all supercontinents, formed around 335 million years ago. It brought together nearly all of Earth’s landmasses, including North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, Antarctica, and parts of India. The breakup of Pangea led to the formation of the modern continents we recognize today.
Evidence Of Floods That Match The Biblical Flood?
So, we know that continents indeed move, and there is some truth to the notion of pole shifts, which generally occur over long periods. However, after the 2004 earthquake in the Indian Ocean, scientists discovered that the north pole shifted approximately 25 cm to the east. While this shift is far from the dramatic changes Thomas suggested, it supports the idea that such shifts are possible.
Thomas claimed that these pole shifts resulted in cataclysmic events, including floods, which are a common theme in legends worldwide. Increasing evidence suggests that a significant flood occurred around 11,500 years ago during the Younger Dryas period, marking the end of the last Ice Age. However, in The Adam and Eve Story, Thomas argued that the most recent flood happened much later, around 6,500 years ago, as a result of a pole shift.
While many dismissed Thomas’s claims, recent discoveries of ancient flooding in China, the Mediterranean, and the Black Sea date back to around 6,500 years ago—exactly when Thomas claimed the last major flood occurred. He suggested that this flood could be the basis for the legend of Noah’s flood.
Regular Floods Going Back Eons
Thomas also proposed dates for other significant floods. Besides the Younger Dryas flood, he claimed a flood occurred around 18,000 years ago, coinciding with the submersion of the Bering Strait Land Bridge, which once connected modern-day Russia and the United States. He further suggested another flood took place around 29,000 years ago, roughly aligning with the end of the Wisconsin glacial period. According to Thomas, the earliest recorded flood happened about 43,000 years ago.
Thomas argued that these floods were likely caused by rapid pole shifts that dramatically altered the planet within hours. He also insisted that advanced civilizations existed before each of these floods and were ultimately wiped out, leaving only small groups of survivors who had to restart from a stone-age level of development.
While mainstream science acknowledges that these floods occurred, it dismisses the idea that pole shifts were the cause or that advanced civilizations existed before any of them.
Evidence Of Lost Worlds?
Thomas also contends that the legends of Atlantis and Lemuria (or Mu) likely have a basis in reality and that these civilizations were victims of one of the many floods that have occurred on Earth. Most people are familiar with the legend of Atlantis—a great and advanced society that lived on a circular-shaped island, overtaken by floodwaters around 11,000 years ago, coinciding with the Younger Dryas period. According to legend, Atlantis was submerged in a single day and night, resonating with Thomas’s claims that these pole-shift events and subsequent floods happened within a day.
While many place Atlantis in the Atlantic Ocean, some researchers have pointed to the Richat Structure, or the Eye of the Sahara, as a potential location. Located in northwest Africa along the Atlantic coast, the dimensions of this unique formation are strikingly similar to descriptions of Atlantis, with some suggesting it might even be manmade.
Adding to the intrigue, the area around the Richat Structure features strange, mountain-like landscapes that, from above, resemble wave-like ripples. These formations are the result of a deluge, which suggests that the Richat Structure could indeed have been the lost city of Atlantis.
A Once Global Civilization
Taking this a stage further, if we consider a potential connection between Atlantis and ancient Egypt—some researchers suggest that the ancient Egyptian civilization arose from the remnants of surviving Atlanteans—it is not hard to imagine that these survivors might have fled as far as possible from the flood, eventually reaching what is now modern-day Egypt. This is speculative, but it is certainly an intriguing idea.
There is also another alleged lost continent—Lemuria, or Mu. Several reasons support the belief that Lemuria, like Atlantis, truly existed. The idea of this lost continent primarily comes from two 19th-century researchers, Augustus Le Plongeon and James Churchward, who studied texts from the Mayan and Indian civilizations. Despite being separated by thousands of miles, both civilizations described a land that once existed in the Pacific Ocean, stretching between modern-day South and Latin America, reaching as far north as Hawaii and as far south as Easter Island, and extending to Australia and Japan.
Proponents of Lemuria’s existence suggest that it was submerged in the same flood that destroyed Atlantis around 11,500 years ago. Additionally, underwater ruins off the coast of Yonaguni in Japan and the mysterious Nan Madol in Micronesia are believed by some to be remnants of the once-great Lemuria.
It’s also interesting to examine Easter Island—a small speck in the vast Pacific Ocean—and specifically, its iconic Easter Island heads, of which there are hundreds. Many of these impressive statues now lie in ruins, fragmented and scattered across the island. A notable characteristic of the Easter Island heads is that several are partially buried, with their lower sections hidden beneath the ground.
The reason behind their burial has long intrigued researchers. The prevailing theory suggests that ancient islanders intentionally buried the statues as part of their cultural practices, aligning with their beliefs and rituals. The burying of the moai may have served as a way to honor ancestors or reflect shifts in social and religious dynamics on the island. However, there’s another hypothesis to consider.
Some theories propose that a cataclysmic event, such as a massive flood, deposited the sediment that buried the moai on Easter Island. Furthermore, it’s suggested that Easter Island was once part of Lemuria before a catastrophic flood transformed it into the small, isolated island we know today. This raises questions about the island’s diminutive size and how its population originally arrived there.
Too Many Similarities To Be Coincidence
The belief that Polynesian explorers navigated thousands of miles across the challenging Pacific Ocean in small boats might be overly optimistic.
The idea that Easter Island could have been the southernmost extension of the legendary lost continent of Mu, popularized by James Churchward in the early 20th century, remains a contentious theory. Advocates argue that similarities between the stone megaliths found on Easter Island and other ancient sites across the Pacific Ocean suggest a shared cultural origin.
There are additional reasons to consider the potential existence of Lemuria. For instance, distinct similarities exist between Polynesian languages and Greek, and the worship of a sun god, Ra, parallels the ancient Egyptian deity Ra.
Could it be possible that Lemuria, akin to Atlantis, actually existed, and that survivors from these fabled lands dispersed to various parts of the world, carrying their knowledge, beliefs, and languages with them?
Has The World “Ended” Before?
Alright, so how probable are these scenarios? Well, some parts of these ideas are not just possible but quite likely. There is indeed the potential for significant flooding events to occur. However, whether such events would result from a dramatic pole shift, as described by Chan Thomas, remains a topic of ongoing debate.
Despite the unsettling nature of these concepts, they are undeniably intriguing and thought-provoking. The notion that life could be drastically altered—quite literally—within hours, with minimal warning, should prompt us to collectively examine this possibility more closely. Specifically, we should consider how we might detect and prepare for such abrupt changes.
While Thomas’s theories and specific claims may not align perfectly with established scientific views, the fact that catastrophic floods have occurred in the past compels us to take seriously the possibility of their recurrence. The CIA’s monitoring of Thomas, likely due to his involvement in sensitive areas, suggests a potential awareness of worst-case scenarios, kept confidential to prevent panic or for other undisclosed reasons.
Amidst the controversies, “The Adam and Eve Story” raises profound questions about the cyclical nature of cataclysms and their impact on human history. It urges further exploration and research into Earth’s past to enhance our readiness for potential future events.
The short video below looks at these fascinating events a little further.
