The Baffin Island UFO Sighting – Yet Another Pilot Report

In UFO terms, 2018 could very well be remembered as the year of the “pilot sightings”. We have had two separate reports from commercial airline pilots over Arizona in March. Then, in October several more pilots all appeared to report the same aerial anomaly over southwest Ireland. A sighting, incidentally, that was apparently corroborated by several sightings on the ground at the same time. In November 2018, a sighting was reported by a pilot over Baffin Island in the Nunavut region of Canada.

While pilots reporting UFOs is nothing new, there now appears to be a sense of urgency to make such reports known on the part of the respective witnesses. Something that in the past, they would have most certainly stayed clear of. And what of the location in this particular sighting? The region has a history of strange, bizarre, and unsettling encounters and events. Many of which are still very much unexplained. Furthermore, and as we will examine later, reports of strange “pings” or “hums” have surfaced since 2016, making this recent activity all the more intriguing. And possibly, if the claims from some in the UFO community are true, all the more unsettling.

Nothing To See, Or Discreet Code?

At a little after 8:30 pm on the 24^th November 2018, pilots of a Noliner Aviation Boeing 737-200 jet made their way to the Mary River mine near Baffin Island. As they cut through the darkened skies, however, a strange object was clear ^[1] ahead of them. They would immediately report the sighting to Canada’s Civil Aviation Daily Occurrence Reporting System (CADORS). They, in turn, would inform the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD). Perhaps that is telling of how serious the incident was perceived.

On the incident report, the words in the description are “Weather balloon, meteor, rocket, CIRVIS/UFO”. While there is certainly nothing like a “smoking gun” piece of information within the report, the use of those particular words makes one wonder if they are used as a discreet code of sorts? This is pure speculation on the author’s part. And let’s face it, we would hardly be confirmed correct if they were.

It would appear, like many areas around the world, that UFO sightings are persistent over Canadian skies. According to data from the Ufology Research group, there were a total of 1,101 UFO reports in Canada in the calendar year of 2017. And we should remember that many UFO sightings are not reported through fear of mocking or repercussions with witnesses’ respective careers. We should also remember that many other UFOs perhaps go unnoticed. The report went on to state that “the continued reporting of UFOs by the public and the yearly increase in numbers of UFO reports suggest a need for further examination of the phenomenon by social, medical and/or physical scientists”.

Perhaps it is worth our while looking at some of the other sightings and strange anomalies in the Nunavut region.

Other UFO Activities In The Nunavut Region!

We have examined before the suspicious disappearance of a tribe in the Nunavut region in the 1930s, an encounter that very well could be a mass alien abduction. And such strange activity is not at all limited to the past.

For example, at around 3 am on 16^th September 2016 in Iqaluit, Nunavut, a hiker would report “a bunch of star-like lights moving in sequence” as he walked home. He stopped and watched the display, including witnessing an airplane that seemingly “disappeared out of sight” as it reached the strange lights’ location, eventually reappearing when it “reached the other side”. As he kept his attention on the strange events overhead, he would suddenly see “something bright, flash”. Then it flashed again. And then again. Now feeling a little more than unnerved he reached for his mobile phone so he could call for a cab. However, for a short time, his phone simply wouldn’t work. After several moments, the signal suddenly returned. He called successfully and arranged for a cab to pick him up. From there, he went home to contemplate what he had witnessed.

In July 2011, in the same area, a man sitting at his work desk noticed a “blue light rotating around another stationary blue light”. He would explain that by the time he had run to get his camera, the craft was “at a much higher altitude”. The strange object was visible for around three hours. Furthermore, more than sixty people, as well as the main witness, would view the object.

Strange Noise From The Seas Of The Arctic!

In November 2016 a strange account appeared, in the mainstream media to boot, of reports of a strange noise coming from the Arctic in the Nunavut region. What’s more, the Canadian military was actively investigating ^[2] the strange sounds, even scrambling military jets for a reconnaissance mission. Reports vary slightly as to the sound to this mysterious noise. Some reports state it is a “ping”, while others claim it is a “beep”. Others still describe a “humming” sound.

What has further concerned Canadian authorities is a “troubling drop in the number of migrating animals” in the region. This has led to some speculation that the two incidents could share a connection with each other.

There are several theories as to what the cause of the noise might be. Some reason it is the result of nearby mining operations. Others wonder if there might be a “secret” submarine presence in the waters. The area has also been host to several sonar surveys in the past, and this could again prove to be the case. Perhaps in a bizarre twist, some corners have accused the organization, Greenpeace, of intentionally planting sonars in a bid to “scare away” whales and seals from the clutches of hunters. Incidentally, Greenpeace steadfastly denies involvement in the mysterious noises.

The strange noise was first noticed around the Fury and Hecla Strait. This, coincidentally or not, resides between Baffin Island and the mainland. The crew of a yacht on the stretch of water would even comment how they could hear the sound through their hull.

Military Presence, Claims Of Ownership, And “The Russians!”

Interestingly or not, a joint Canadian-US military base, Hall Beach, operates along this same stretch of water hosting these sounds. The obvious potential connections were not long being highlighted for some.

There has also been speculation that Russian submarines may be in the region. According to some commentators, there are regular activities from Russian planes and ships. They regularly travel as close as possible to the absolute edge of NATO’s air and sea space. Some believe these lines are discreetly crossed further than we might think.

What also makes this situation murkier, including the alleged Russian presence, are the claims to parts of the region, previously unclaimed by any country, by each nation. These include “possible maritime shortcuts” close to, but not part of Canadian territory. Ones that only recently appeared due to a shrinking of the ice in the region. They also include the North Pole. As you might imagine, both of the polar regions are regular subjects of conspiracies, not least those of largely concealed entrances to the “inner Earth”. And these “competing claims” by each country will only fan the flames of such conspiracies.

It is, then, among possible entrances to the inner-Earth and two countries on either side of the still-existent east-west divide (at least politically), a little strange that the same area of mysterious noises has recently had strange UFO sightings too. As you might imagine, some people have suggested an altogether different explanation for the strange sounds.

An Underwater Alien Base In The Arctic Ocean?

Although it sounds completely bizarre, claims of some kind of “alien base”, an underwater one at that, are not as outlandish as they might first seem. Especially, although this is pure speculation, if we draw a connection to the aforementioned military base in the area. Their apparent purpose is to “track incoming missiles” over the Arctic region. It wouldn’t be that much of a reach, however, to think an alternative project runs out of the facility.

According to some in UFO circles, the reason behind the strange noise and increased UFO activity in Canada, in general, is because of the alien base that likely resides deep under the icy waters. While not everyone accepts this as even a possibility, it is certainly an interesting claim. And just for the sake of argument, if extraterrestrials did wish to have a discreet presence on the planet, the polar regions, presuming they could stand the brutal conditions, would be the perfect place. And, for those who might subscribe to the Hollow Earth theory and an existence within the planet, such a base would most likely serve as some kind of entrance of “landing bay”. Of course, as intriguing as such claims are, we must temper them with a pinch of salt here and there.

That being said, considering the source of the sounds are still a mystery, and that the Canadian military will “no longer investigate”, it would surely be foolish, bordering on irresponsible, to ignore them. Should we take from that that any investigation has “gone underground”, away from the prying eyes of the public? And, if we accept for a moment these strange noises and sightings are the result of an alien base, why have they suddenly started now? And what are they a prelude to?
