If you subscribe to the Ancient Astronaut Theory, then the idea of UFO sightings in the past is nothing new. And while its very much down to interpretation, many ancient writings appear to be full of references to extra-terrestrial activity.
Recently even NASA would state that there was a remarkable consistency with UFO sightings going back through recorded history. While NASA’s Richard Stothers would state that whatever such sightings actually were, they “constitute a phenomenon that spans centuries of time and widely different cultures!”
As well as sightings of such strange objects in the ancient skies, many writings also speak of distinct interaction. Some even of interbreeding and of ruling over humans. Most believe these writings to be nothing more than myths and legends. However, that belief is itself interpretation.
Perhaps a good example would be the City of Troy, thought largely throughout modern times to be a fictional place. It now appears that Hisarlik in northwest Turkey to be the legendary city. While more research is required to firmly establish this is the Troy of legend, it surely leads to the questions of how many of “legends” are, in fact, historical accounts.
Before we look at some of the ancient UFO sightings, check out the video below. It looks at the lost City of Troy in a little more detail.

Early Recorded Sightings of Ancient Rome
There are many sightings of UFOs in much of the recorded history of Ancient Rome. Furthermore, these writings should be taken seriously due to the painstaking procedures and investigations the Roman authorities would go through before anything was officially recorded.
In the Annales Maximi published by the Pontifex Maximus of Rome, there are several sightings of strange aerial phenomena during the Second Punic War between 218-201 BC. One account in 218 BC, for example, speaks of “a spectacle of ships (which) gleamed in the sky.” Or the following year “round shields were seen in the sky” at Arpi. Many other reports of a similar nature reside throughout the writings.
Over a hundred years later as the Roman army prepared to battle the soldiers of King Mithridates VI in modern-day Turkey, Plutarch would record a sighting not only seen by him but by thousands of awestruck witnesses.
In 74 BC, as Roman foot soldiers advanced, there was a sudden loud clash and spectacle in the skies above them. Even though the weather had not changed “the sky burst asunder, and a huge, flame-like body was seen to fall between the two armies!”
Plutarch would describe the shape of the object as “like a wine-jar” and a “molten silver” in color. So in awe was each army, that they each backed away from the strange object, and in turn each other. Was this an intentional intervention?
“Chariots In The Sky”, Judea, 65 AD
Just over a century later in 65 AD, Josephus would describe another bizarre event over the skies of Judea. He would describe the incident as “a miraculous phenomenon, passing belief!” It seems he was also fully aware that people would not believe him when he writes his encounter would “likely been deemed a fable were it not for the narratives of eyewitnesses and the subsequent calamities” which followed.
According to Josephus, “chariots were seen in the air” all over the country. Many people witnessed the “armed battalions hurtling through the clouds” over the cities below them. Furthermore, as priests prepared for the feast of Pentecost inside their temple they “felt a quaking and heard a great noise.” This was followed by multiple similar sounds overhead.
It would appear this is a description of a fleet of aerial crafts in a clash overhead – the “quakes” and “noises” the consequences of such a battle.
There are further writings by the Roman historian Tacitus, who would record the event half a century later. He would write that “in the sky appeared a vision of armies in conflict, of glittering armor!” He would continue that “a lightning flash from the clouds lit up the Temple” forcing the doors to open. Furthermore, according to Tacitus a “superhuman voice” announced “the gods” were leaving.
Angelic Aliens and Angel Hair
Around 150 AD in Via Campana, Italy, a sighting of a UFO by the brother of Pope Puis I was recorded. The sighting occurred during the day, with the object described as “a beast like a piece of pottery” appearing in the sky. It was around one-hundred feet in size, with a multi-colored top “shooting out fiery rays!” The object came to the ground “in a dust cloud”, and even more bizarre a “maiden clad in white” emerged from the craft.
Just short of fifty years later in 196 AD is a report of what modern ufologists term “angel hair” – a fine chalk-like substance sometimes left behind following UFO sightings. Historian, Cassius Dio recorded “a fine rain resembling silver” falling from an otherwise bright and clear sky above. He would collect samples of this silver rain, which remained for several days before finally disappearing. There are at least two other “rains of chalk” incidents in Roman history. These are in Rome in 98 BC, and in Cales in 214 BC.
Check out the short video below that looks at Angel Hair in a little more detail.
Ancient Indian Texts – “Fact! Not Myth!”
Perhaps some of the most intriguing ancient writings are some of the ancient Indian or Hindu texts.
Perhaps what is worth bearing in mind, is that scholars of such Sanskrit texts and other ancient writings as the Mahabharata or the Ramayana state they are historical accounts, not legends or myth. And what they describe is fascinating.
For example, the Ramayana texts repeatedly describe flying objects called “Vimanas” that could achieve great heights. One particular text states that “a beautiful chariot arrived shining, a wonderful divine car that sped through the air.”
The Mahabharata would describe the flight of the Vimanas as “flying on an enormous ray, as brilliant as the Sun and made a noise like the thunder of a storm”.
The descriptions in the Mahabharata of the cities of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa are just as intriguing. Perhaps particularly so given the claims by some researchers of evidence of a nuclear explosion there at some point in the distant past. According to the ancient text, the cities were destroyed with a great weapon – the Agneya.
The text reads, “White hot smoke that was a thousand times brighter than the sun rose in infinite brilliance and reduced the city to ashes. Water boiled…horses and war chariots were burned by the thousands… the corpses of the fallen were mutilated by the terrible heat so that they no longer looked like human beings!”
Not only do we have an account of a flying machine, but one that utilizes nuclear weapons. Many of these writings and events stretch back around four-thousand years ago, long before the accounts of Ancient Rome. Others, however, go back even further than that.
Sanskrit Writings, Sumerian Cuneiform, and The Mayans
Many of the Sanskrit writings of the Vedas would also appear in the later texts of the Mahabharata and the Ramayana. Some of these go back six-thousand years. What is also interesting, to some, are the detailed descriptions of the Vimanas (of which there are many) which suggest a knowledge and understanding of anti-gravity technology. This is something that is a hot topic of debate in UFO and conspiracy circles today. Some even claim the world’s governments actively suppress this knowledge.
Such know-how and technological advancement come to light in other ancient writings. Ones, whose beginnings on Earth go back almost half-a-million years.
We have written before of Zechariah Sitchin and his interpretation of thousands of Sumerian clay tablets. In brief, they tell the story of the Anunnaki, who came to Earth to mine for gold. Tired of the constant grind, they created human beings to mine the gold for them. Many of the translations, if Sitchin’s interpretations are correct, form the basis of many of the stories and legends found in various cultures across the globe.
Another intriguing example of alien contact in the past is the Mayans. Many ancient astronaut theorists have claimed such contact long ago with the Mayans, and other civilizations native to South America. Researcher and filmmaker, Juan Carlos Rulfo would make further claims following his 2012 documentary.
One of the sources to the documentary was the Mexican minister for tourism, Luis August Garcia Rosado. He would state that there was definite contact between “the Mayans and extra-terrestrials” proof of which was the 3,000-year-old “landing pads in the jungle!” This was possible due to “translations of certain codices”. Furthermore, the Mexican government is in possession of this device “in underground vaults” and they had been for some time.

UFOs and Aliens In The Bible
Of course, many of the accounts mentioned above seem to appear, retold, in The Bible. And many of the Biblical accounts are apparently laden with references to UFOs or extra-terrestrials.
We have written before of The Flood, for example. And of the Ark of the Covenant, the Exodus, and the Manna Machine, and the eternal search for it.
Perhaps the telling of the parting of the Red Sea, before the Exodus, is another example of alien technology or intervention. According to the account, Moses would part the waters by stretching out his hand, causing a wind to come from the east. Was this the utilization of a technological, alien device? Many ancient astronaut theorists believe so.
In a similar story to the ancient cities of Mohenjo-Daro and Harappa, The Bible tells of Sodom and Gomorrah. According to Genesis, the cities had turned into a hive of sexual depravity, so much so, God would destroy it. However, he would first send “two angels” to forewarn Lot, a man who the angel said was not deserving of such an end.
As the angels informed Lot, a mob would surround the house, demanding the two men be brought out. As the mob attempted to rush into the building, the angels would strike them with “blindness so that they could not find the door!” The following morning, the angels, Lot, and his family left the city and would head for the hills.
Verse 28 describes the aftermath of the destruction stating, “toward all the land of the plain, he saw dense smoke rising from the land, like smoke from a furnace!” Was this the fury of The Lord? Or the advanced, nuclear weapons of an extra-terrestrial race?
Loaded With Alien And UFO References?
Might such writings as The Bible be retellings of other ancient writings? And these, in turn, telling of the interaction between humans and extra-terrestrials stretching back thousands and thousands of years? One where “angels” and “gods” are actually “aliens”. And where “the Heavens” is simply space and the Universe?
Verse 26 of Genesis 1, for example, states “Let US make man in our image” leading many in ancient astronaut circles to suspect this to be a reference to God actually being a group of a higher alien race, who perhaps looked like us (or we like them).
Of even more interest to ancient astronaut theorists are the first four verses of Genesis 6, which appear to describe the interbreeding of extra-terrestrials and human women. They read, “When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were beautiful, and then married any of them they chose!”
Another biblical figure, Elijah, is said to be taken “up to Heaven” by The Lord in a “chariot of fire”. Whatever the fate of Elijah, it would appear this is a description of an alien abduction. We have already seen that strange aerial phenomena went by the name of “flying chariots” in ancient times. Perhaps then the use of the word fire here is a reference to the propulsion system of such a craft.
Jesus – An Alien-Human Hybrid?
Maybe even the story of Jesus, the most well-known account in The Bible, is one of an alien-human hybrid? As outlandish as that sounds (and probably is), the reasons for this theory make a certain amount of sense.
For example, Mary discovering her “miraculous” pregnancy. Perhaps this as an implant of a hybrid-human-alien fetus. One that her mind was “programmed” to believe to be a divine act. In a similar way to how Moses made his way through the wilderness during the Exodus, the story of the Three Wise Men and the guiding star is another that could easily sit in the UFO sighting category.
The continued “divine acts” and miracles performed throughout the life of Jesus are also intriguing. Might these be alien capabilities deep within his hybrid DNA? Even his rising from the dead following his apparent death is, to some, extra-terrestrial activity as opposed to divine intervention.
Of course, the story of Jesus and if he existed is a conspiracy in and of itself. One which, it would appear, encroaches into the ancient alien arena, as well as the alien question.
The video below looks at the claims of connections between Jesus and aliens.
